Many students experience nervousness on their first day of university, entering an unfamiliar chapter with a courseload unlike any they’ve encountered before. Numerous peers have shared stories of high anxiety and feeling unprepared during their initial days of post-secondary education. However, my experience was different.
In high school, the prospect of post-secondary education made me very nervous, and I was uncertain about my future after graduation. This changed when I was offered the opportunity to enroll in a psychology dual-credit course. To this day, I appreciate being immersed in post-secondary education with the support of familiar high school staff.
After completing the psychology dual-credit course, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I started my first year with 3 university credits already under my belt. For free, Imight add! I vividly remember the relief during my introductory psychology class in university, as much of it felt like a review thanks to the dual-credit course. I felt comfortable in the university setting, I understood lecture style teaching and I knew what to expect from assignments and assessments. I completed the introductory course with confidence and my grades reflected that. I give credit to the psychology dual-credit course in my final year of high school for sparking my love for social science and overcoming hesitations about applying for post-secondary education.
