Students will take foundational courses and participate in a rich array of ‘Calgary is our Classroom’ learning to make personal connections to animal or health sciences and explore the diversity of opportunities in their pathway of interest.
Students will have the opportunity to take their first dual credit course with the University of Calgary if they are ready. Students will take the advanced science path and complete both Science 10 and Biology 20 in this year.

Animal Health, Welfare and Husbandry
In this Grade 10 pathway course, students connect to the many exciting aspects available to them in the Animal Health pathway. They will explore animal health, husbandry and welfare with a focus on small animals, livestock, wildlife and equine. Students have the opportunity to meet, learn from and collaborate with animal health professionals in Calgary. Students learn about the Veterinary Technical Assistant, Animal Health Technician and animal husbandry through Olds College. They also have the opportunity to explore veterinary medicine through on-campus learning at the University of Calgary. This year will support students to engage in and make personal connections to their pathway.
Health Sciences
In this Grade 10 pathway course, students connect to the many exciting aspects and pathways available to them in the Health Sciences pathway. They will explore healthcare, medical studies, nutrition and wellness. Students have the opportunity to meet, learn from and collaborate with healthcare professionals in Calgary. Students learn about the diversity of careers ranging from medical technologies such as sonography and nuclear radiology to nursing, medicine. They will gain exposure to many different health sciences roles and settings. Students will connect with these opportunities through on-campus learning at the University of Calgary and SAIT. This year will support students to engage in and make personal connections to their pathway.

Students will continue to explore areas of interest and passion and have the opportunity to gain work integrated learning or internships experience. Students will fast track their Biology courses and complete Bio 30. Numerous dual credit courses will be offered allowing students to get a taste of college/university as well as post secondary credit.
Students will have opportunities to advance and focus as they make relevant decisions about careers, as well as the education and/or training requirements involved. They may also achieve post-secondary transition courses or full certification in their pathway choice depending on their academic readiness/alignment with their skills, attributes and interests.
