In grade 10, students will take Career Transition courses that are designed to develop skills that high school students can apply in their daily lives when preparing for entry into the workplace or for further learning opportunities. The focus in grade 10 will be for students to immerse themselves in career possibilities through our “Calgary is Our Classroom” program which includes a Post-Secondary On-Campus series, Guest speaker series, Tour series and Workshop/Challenge series that allow students to discover various career possibilities that fit their interests and passions. Students will be able to take a dual credit course focused on Effective Learning Strategies.
Students will continue to explore areas of interest and passion, choosing courses that enable them to make reasoned and effective career decisions and target efforts to meet their goals. Throughout this year with the opportunity to gain work-integrated learning or internship experience, students will define and act on their goals.
By Grade 12 the goal is that students will have discovered their career pathway. Students will have opportunities to advance and focus and make relevant decisions about careers, as well as ensure they have the education and/or training requirements.. They may also achieve post-secondary transition courses or full certification in their pathway choice depending on their academic readiness/alignment with their skills, attributes and interests.
In the Discovery & Exploration pathway students will participate in the following Calgary is our Classroom real world learning experiences.
